Halloween 2012

As I am taking a brief break from a not so brief paper this will be a brief blog.

I handed out candy this year to 40-50 kids who all came in big batches and had some really great costumes.

I myself dressed up for part of the day as well and that was fun too.

I have a black cat and always think that I should be able to pose her in the window as a decoration but she won't do it.

Happy Halloween!

Says it all

So, I was at a meeting earlier this week and we needed a bit of a devotional and I read a few verses from the Bible and pretty much let it go at that as quite often the Bible says it better than me. Here's what I read:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” John 3:16-21

This also reminds me of the song Wonderful Cross which was written by J. D. Walt, Isaac Watts, Chris Tomlin & Jesse Reeves and incorporates an old and well-known hymn with some new music and a new chorus. One of the verses says "love so amazing, so divine, demands my life, my soul, my all".

I think that sums it up pretty well.

Recipes

I really enjoy baking and cooking and do both fairly regularly. From a baking perspective I'm known for my frogs and my chocolate cheesecake and from a cooking perspective my lasagna and chicken skewers. However, I like to cook more than that and for that matter bake more than that. So, sometimes I go looking for recipes, the recipe search is also brought on by a frantic realization that I need to have something made for that day and I am trying to figure out what I can make from what's in my cupboards.

The frantic searches have shown me that I can bake pastry but also that I should avoid plain custard. The more relaxed searches have introduced me to all sorts of fun recipes but more, they have shown to me how to be creative with recipes. I have learned to read a recipe, take it apart and put it back together again the way I want it. Sometimes that means the recipe stays exactly the same, but more often it means that I change something to suit me. It also generally means that my recipes don't come out the same way twice but hey, that's half the fun.

How are you creative with your recipes?
