Remembrance Day

One of the responsibilities I have here in Fernie is as Legion Padre. This involves a few different things but generally the biggest task list falls on and around Remembrance Day. I am blessed to be able to participate in school assemblies as well as the various Remembrance Day services. I'm not gonna lie, this is a lot of work. There are people to contact and organize, sermons and addresses to prepare etc...yet it is worth all of that effort.

Why? Because Remembrance Day is important. For a long time people have been willing to serve their country even to the point of giving their lives for that cause. This is something to cherish and of course, to remember. Yet often we don't! Less and less people care about Remembrance Day except as it gives them an extra day off and so I include a brief portion of my message today to give us all something to do to ensure that the importance of Remembrance Day is not lost.

When the children ask us what is the point of Remembrance Day – rather than giving them a brief answer let us bring them to a service, let us walk them to the Cenotaph and let us tell them that we take Remembrance Day, and every day to remember and be thankful for those that laid their all on the line for us.

Lest we forget!
